Rails to Trails

The O’Neill Creek Trail and Opelt Park celebrated their ribbon cutting this past summer. We are proud to have been able to support the Neillsville Improvement Corporation (NIC) through a multi-year Community Grant.

The Foundation support helped with the engineering concept plans and development of the purchased land and trail corridor. This included a play structure and other elements to make the area a destination and attractive for recreation such as a fishing dock/kayak/canoe launch, benches, bike racks, and fitness stations.

The fitness station is complete with visual instructions for the various components. Located adjacent to the play structures allows parents and caregivers to engage in various exercises while the kids are at play.

The play area is equipped with a variety of play structures, ensuring activities that can be accessible to all.

This trail will provide safe, off-road recreation for residents as well as attract much needed tourism. It will also benefit local businesses seeking to attract and retain employees by enhancing the area’s recreational opportunities and economic growth. NIC believes this will lead to a significant, positive, and lasting impact on the local economy while showcasing our beautiful agricultural land and heritage.
