Mick Schier 2024 Scholarship Recipient

The Mick Schier Memorial Fund was established in 1998 to provide people financial assistance in completing flight school.

Mick was a flight instructor at the Marshfield Municipal Airport. He loved to fly! He enjoyed sharing his passion of flying with everyone he met. He would often talk about how he sheared sheep to raise money for his flight lessons.

We have a mission!

Mick could often be heard saying that phrase when he had a game plan on how to help a student learn to fly. He taught everything from beginning students, to future flight instructors. Mick would love to see that the local people of Central Wisconsin are continuing in his footsteps following their dream to fly.

2024 Mick Schier Scholarship Recipient: Colton Weiler

“Thank you so much for the generous scholarship to help fund my dream to fly.   This award money has helped me pay for flight lessons and ground school hours.  I have tried to learn as much as I can,  as quickly as I can.   Some of my training has included:  understanding aircraft systems and the importance of looking at the operating handbook from an airplane you fly, learning about basic flying maneuvers, and understanding weather patterns. Most importantly, my training has been very focused on the importance of safety every step of the way. My future career plan is to be a commercial pilot. “

It is wonderful to see Mick’s legacy live on through this scholarship, and to see students like Colton pursue their dreams! Here at the Foundation we look forward to facilitating local people of Central Wisconsin who share Mick’s passion in their pursuit of learning to fly. We have a mission!
