Huey’s Hideaway was awarded a 2024 Community Grant to help sponsor memberships for families in need. We spoke with Executive Director, Monica Halopka about Huey’s and how this sponsorship has impacted her organization and community.
“Huey’s Hideaway Children’s Museum serves families and residents of north central Wisconsin through interactive exhibits that expand their imagination. It’s a wonderland of opportunity and togetherness, built for memberships, daily admission, birthday parties, field trips, day camps, and Friday night drop-offs. It is a place where your family can connect and bond together.
When visiting, you’ll notice Central Wisconsin inspired many of our exhibits, like the barn and tractor and the trapper cabin. We recently added a STEM room and have been busy outside this summer with our amphitheater, dino dig, garden, and mud kitchen. Exhibits have been changing and improving constantly and the entire building is filled with spaces sparking play and connection.
Members access the building with a code, resulting in community trust that’s incredible. Members know that Huey’s is built in partnership together, which means keeping the building safe and clean for the next families to visit. We truly all care about each other. Huey’s wouldn’t be here without the love and partnership that Medford has for us.
Additionally, a community grant from the Marshfield Area Community Foundation allowed us to offer memberships to families experiencing financial restrictions or obstacles in their life. The families are incredibly grateful, and they use their memberships; some multiple times per week! They’re really getting put to use.
Aside from creatively growing exhibits, Huey’s current dream is finishing some structural building repairs and a three-year campaign to become debt-free. This would allow us to open our door to hundreds more kids and continue to give back to the community.”
